O’Chiese Education Authority is currently accepting applications for a Principal position beginning August 12, 2024 and concluding June 30, 2025. This position is only for this term as it is covering for a maternity leave with the current Principal returning for the following school year.

The applicant will:

  • have an understanding about trauma-informed teaching practices
  • have a foundational knowledge of First Nation culture and the Treaties
  • respect and promote the Saulteaux language and culture within the school
  • have the ability to work collaboratively with the O’Chiese community
  • have strong interpersonal skills
  • be able to work and connect with families within our school community
  • be able to work as a team with teachers, Educational Assistants, Elders and other support staff (custodial, maintenance, cooks, counsellors, external services) in the building
  • have strong and effective communication and leadership skills
  • be able to manage budget items
  • be able to ensure that school programming is in the best interest of the students
  • have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • A Valid Alberta teaching certificate is required
  • A background and experience in educational leadership
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching in the classroom

Our school has approximately 240 students from K-12, 18 teaching staff, and 17 support staff. Our school offers traditional Saulteaux language and land-based classes to students. Our community is located in the foothills with a beautiful scenic view of the Canadian Rockies, close to local parks, within a 45-minute drive of Rocky Mountain House and approximately 2.5 hour drive to Banff, Jasper, Calgary and Edmonton.
