O’Chiese Education Authority is currently accepting applications for one Inclusive Education Teacher, for the 2026/2027 school year. 

The applicant will have:

  • a background highly specialized in Pre-K to Grade 12 Inclusive Education
  • an understanding of the difference between Tier 1, 2 and 3 supports and how to create effective lessons and resources to support each Tier.
  • a minimum of 5 years in Inclusive Education teaching in a school setting with a minimum of 2 years teaching in a classroom setting working specifically with the diagnoses listed below
  • Be trained in Collaborative Problem Solving
  • Have a pedagogical understanding and philosophy that behaviour is communication
  • An understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and the Saulteaux culture
  • a thorough understanding of the nuances, complexities and spectrums of Autism, FASD, Mild Intellectual Disabilities, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorders
  • a thorough understanding of Developmental Language Disorders and Speech Delays and how to support these learners
  • an understanding of the co-morbidities that can arise with student diagnoses and ensure these students are successful
  • an understanding of the UFLI program, and SRSD
  • able to collect and use data to inform instruction and planning
  • be organized and able to manage the workload
  • be willing to integrate the community’s culture and language into your daily practice
  • experience writing Safety Plans, FBAs, BIPs, IPPs, Emotional Support Plans, Communication plans, Return to School after Mental Health Hospitalization plans
  • be able to effectively manage a large caseload of students (50+) with multiple needs
  • work with the physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, mental health therapists and additional community supports to support all students
  • implement the strategies and therapies left by the occupational therapist and physical therapist when they are not there
  • an understanding of how to use AAC devices and teach students to use them
  • know how to partner families with external supports available in the community, outside of the community and within the province and which ones are appropriate
  • an ability to build rapport with students across multiple grades quickly
  • experience working with a diverse set of student needs and providing appropriate programming for those students 
  • have experience de-escalating students at multiple ages
  • have trauma informed training
  • physically able to assist Educational Assistants when needed (be able to lift at least 30 lbs)
  • be physically able to be on your feet for extended periods of time
  • be able to develop and create resources and parallel tasks for multiple different alternative and modified student programmes
  • the ability to work as a team with Educational Assistants and other staff members to ensure student success
  • communicate with families on a regular basis

Our school has approximately 240 students from K-12, 18 teaching staff, and 17 support staff. Our school offers traditional Saulteaux language and land-based classes to students. Our community is located in the foothills with a beautiful scenic view of the Canadian Rockies, close to local parks, within a 45-minute drive of Rocky Mountain House and approximately 2.5 hour drive to Banff, Jasper, Calgary and Edmonton.
