Educational Psychological Assessments

Educational Assessments completed by a psychologist allow for the teachers, and support staff in the building get a full sense of how your child learns and what strategies to use to best aid them in being successful at school.

Your child will have a re-assessment every 3 years.

For each assessment, you are required to provide consent so the psychologist can proceed.

A diagnosis may come out of this assessment. That is okay as it allows for a full understanding of how to support your child so they are successful daily at school.

If you have questions, you can always arrange a talk with the Special Education Teacher or if you have further questions, they can arrange a meeting with the psychologist.

E.A. Support

We have 6 EAs that work at our school providing speech and occupational therapy supports as well as tailored 1:1 and small group supports. They also provide support in the classrooms on a regular basis. Small group and 1:1 support is designated based off of student goals and needs.

Our EAs are a valuable and integral part of ensuring that students are successful at our school.

Speech

Weekly we have a licensed Speech Language Pathologist that meets with the students for treatment and assessment. This looks different for every student.

Throughout the week, students are provided with support from an Educational Assistant who is well trained in the program.

Students who receive speech services may not have a noticeable speech impediment, but may struggle with not as noticeable things, such as the tenses of words (past, present, future) or speaking confidently and clearly.

Students will require a consent to begin receiving services. Once services have begun, consent lasts until it has been revoked by the family/guardians or they are no longer requiring services.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy helps students with sensory regulation, fine motor, daily living skills and gross motor skills.

Students who receive occupational therapy can struggle with holding a pencil or scissors to being able to stay calm and regulated during high energy, overwhelming situations. Students who also struggle with organizational or planning ahead also benefit from occupational therapy. Some may struggle with basic daily living skills such as washing their face, or walking down the hall.
