O’Chiese School and Community in partnership for Student Success

O’Chiese School, Band Administration and the Business Centre have teamed up to help parents and students understand the importance of attending school regularly.

Many studies show that good attendance results in:
1. Kids enjoying school more;

          2. Kids learning more easily;

          3. Kids feeling a sense of belonging and competence, so that they stay in school and graduate.

However, these same studies show that missing even a couple of days a month in early years negatively affects a child’s ability to read. This in turn negatively affects their school success, how they see themselves, and how they enjoy school.

So, to ensure our students have the very best opportunities in life, O’Chiese School has launched an Attendance Campaign, beginning with a generous award to the family of Nevaeh Whitford, a grade 2 student at O’Chiese School who achieved 97% attendance over the year.

A student’s great attendance, especially in the early years, is almost always a family effort. Thanks to O’Chiese Band Administration, this family received a luxury theme room at the Fantasyland Hotel, 6 passes to the attractions and $400.00 spending money. O’Chiese Business Centre also gifted the family with $150 of gas coupons plus $850 spending money at West Edmonton Mall.      Watch for more events and news around the importance of attending school every day!
